Survey questions on "The Double Edge of Globalization"

3.How does China as "the factory of the world" cause environmental problems?

4.Out of all the environmental problems, why is global warming one of the main concerns?

  1. Good questions, Desheng. There are a few minor problems:

    1) Questions #1 is really two questions, not one.

    2) "evidence" is a non-count noun.

-- What are the pollution here? >>> subject-verb disagreement

    3) #3 is very broad. "China" is such a huge concept: a place, a billion + people, a government, a society. Can you be more specific?

    4) one of the main concern >>> one of the main concerns

    5) Verb problems in #5.

  2. Sorry DeSheng for the late post.

    1. International consumers demand increases causing the need for more supply of products. To fit the needs of the consumers as well as to earn more, companies and suppliers find ways to speed up the process and provide sufficient for the consumers.

    2. I believe the context is referring to the previous paragraph which mentioned about the carbon emission due to clearing of crops. However, some facts about deforestation is that it does not only causes carbon emission and air pollution but also contribute to soil erosion, biodiversity tragedy and adversely affect the climate change due to the inability to absorb Carbon Dioxide and gives off Oxygen through plants.

3.China is, as it was mentioned, "the factory of the world". Being the one of the largest manufacturers of vast variety of products, China generally produces more pollution than other countries.

4.Global warming is recognised as one of the main concern because it is the reason behind the rise in average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and causing various kind of climate changes around the world. These effects can cause damages that cannot be undone and will drastically affect everyone in the world.

5.(I don't really know the answer but I had done some research to find out). According to about.com, President Bush back then refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol because he deemed it as too costly, described it as "an unrealistic and ever-tightening straitjacket." and claimed that millions of jobs will be lost if US joins the Kyoto Protocol.
